They are talkative. Absolutely: like hens in a hen house, they are seldom silent. Peckers. Boisterous. As our mother would say, “wicked chatterboxes”. Of course! They are ready to live every single day to the full!
Brimming with strength. Overflowing. Longing. Passionate. Alive.
They love to dance. But not just dance, you see? Besides dancing, listening to music, making music, doing sports, studying… They love nature, travel, they are affectionate party animals, activists in sex.
Little by way of foolishness, silliness. They are not as flighty as some of you might think. Very light on their feet. No doubt about that. And their hearts, too. Always beating happily.
Like us, they need a sense of togetherness. Gathered in hugs, being still, gazing at each other and, without further ado, understanding each other.
This is an imperfect, defiant hen house. They are young, do not easily conform and disagree about many things.
With the roles established by this society, with labels, prejudices, restrictions on freedom, gag laws, corrupt policies, the education system, barriers. NO, THEY DON’T.
THEY DON’T AGREE.

SAGARTU is a multidisciplinary street performance that presents all the meanings of the apple, starting on the Heaven, in a happy dynamic and entertaining way, with live music, theatre and dance. The apple is a temptation. It is a whim without hunger. Before lunch, it is a craving. After lunch, it is a wish. In addition, always it is healthy. On the one hand, it takes away the hunger; on the other hand, it arouses desire for continuing eating more and more. The apple dances. It is green in the pocket, red in the bag and green in our hands!
The apple is a very important part in the history of our town. The Basque farms have survived because of the sider. They have been built around the winery and they have reached the modern days because of this. As an example, in 1932 in Gipuzkoa, the population was middle comparing with nowadays, but there were 744 sider houses, producing 8 million litres of sider. Our idea is not to create a performance about the apple itself, but we can not deny that the apple has brought a special lifestyle to the Basque Country, and specially to Gipuzkoa.
The apple by itself is a very dancing element. Its roundness invites to movement, it is very attractive, colourful and easy to carry in our hands, in the pocket….

The last performance of SAGARTU took place in November 2020.
“Amantalen ahotsa” was the first collaboration for Oinkari and Hika. The performance, which was presented in November 2012, narrated the history of women with apron that suffered the civil war. “Ahotsak” was the leader of the project. One year later, in July 2013, the ways of both groups crossed again, for creating a new collaboration: the performance “ITSASOAREN EMAZTEAK” (The wives of the sea). Basing on the traditional Basque dances, this performance shows the life lesson of the wives of Basque fishermen. More than 50 dancers, 4 musicians and 2 actors will fill the stage, sewing real stories with the nets to the rate of the waves.
This second collaboration has been very positive for both groups. On the one hand, as the dance has been an essential base during Agurtzane Intxaurraga’s training, Hika has always had the idea of involving in a dance project. In fact, the dance has always had a especial weight in same of the projects managed by Agurtzane. This is the reason for accepting Oinkari’s proposal inmediatly. Both groups began this project with attitude, excitement and desire of investigating and discovering new limits.
On the other hand, Oinkari, with more than 175 years of experience, decided to investigate new ways. Maintaining its identity, the collaboration with Hika has given the opportunity for seeing the Basque dances from another point of view. Moreover, Oinkari has had the possibility of working in several main theatres of the Basque Country. Both groups have worked hardly in many different and interesting projects.
