Korrontzi folk group was created in 2004 in Mungia. Agus Barandiaran (Diatonic accordion) and Mikel Romero (mandolin and guitar) were the person who started this new folk project. Their objective always has been the same: to update the Basque folk music based on the ancient melodies and linked with the Trikitixa (Diatonic accordion). Agus loves the tradition of the trikitixa in Gipuzkoa and, moreover, he knows very well the melodies of the trikitixa in Bizkaia, because of his family. Korrontzi can be defined as tradition accompanied by contemporary technique.
Korrontzi has had very clear which is its place in the Basque folklore since they published their first CD “Getxo”. Korrontzi not only has offered music in live, but also, they have created a complete spectacle. For completing the project, they contacted Oinkari. Both together they have worked hardly to offer an interesting spectacle to the public. Oinkari has danced the melodies of Korrontzi creating contemporary choreographies on the stage. The union between dance and music has been almost perfect.
